Western nations have said they would recognize Kosovo's independence because it has not been under Serbia's control since 1999, when NATO intervened to stop former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic's military crackdown against the separatists.

Kosova has the richest mineral resources in all of Europe west of Russa.
The New York Times observed that "the sprawling state-owned Trepca mining complex, the most valuable piece of real estate in the Balkans, is worth at least $5 billion."
This is truly why the West is so eager to recognize an independent Kosovo. (MR)
