Hillary Clinton to back Kosovo independence

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senator and one of the Democrats' presidential favorites Hillary Clinton has spoken out over the Kosovo crisis.

Blowback From Moscow

The nationalism and anti-Americanism rife in Putin's Russia is blowback for our contemptuous disregard of Russian sensibilities and our arrogant intrusions into Russia's space. How did we lose a Russia that Ronald Reagan and Bush I had virtually converted into an ally?

We financed a pipeline from Baku through Georgia to the Black Sea to cut Russia out of the Caspian oil trade. After getting Moscow's permission to use old Soviet bases in Central Asia to invade Afghanistan, we set about making the bases permanent. We pulled out of the Anti-Ballistic Missile treaty over Moscow's objection, then announced plans to plant ABM radars in the Czech Republic and anti-missile missiles in Poland.

Putin has now responded in kind, and who can blame him?

This administration has to be comprised of the true "Keystone Cops" of foreign policy, to have turned a potential ally into an adversary so completely.(MR)

NATO troops deployed to Kosovo

SERBIAN President Boris Tadic warned of ethnic unrest if Kosovo unilaterally declares independence, as a NATO commander said extra forces were being deployed to the Serbian province.

Kosovo President: Kosovo to declare independence in coordination with U.S., EU

So we're not only going head to head about Kosovar "independence" (read: vast mineral resources) with Serbia: we'll also be going head to head - potentially militarily - with Russia, which rejects Kosovo splitting off from Serbia.

Russia is dealing with various regions of its own right now which, given their preferences, would probably pull out of the Russian orbit and declare their independence (like Chechnya). Russia fears a "domino effect" if Kosovo becomes independent from Serbia.

Serbia pins blame of any Balkan flare-up on US

"It is obvious that full responsibility rests on the United States and its choice, on one hand, for law and order and, on the other, long-term instability," Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica told the news agency Beta.

This has very much to do with the vast, rich mineral resources in Kosovo, and who - at the end of the day - can profit from them. (MR)

BELGRADE (Reuters) - The United States alone can choose whether the Balkans experience stability or lawlessness, Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica said on Friday, after the failure of negotiations with Kosovo Albanians.

Prosecution case in war crimes trial of former Kosovo leader blighted by scared witnesses

Welcome to Tirana, Europe's pollution capital

When Albania's communist dictatorship collapsed in the late 1980s there were only 2,000 cars in the country, and horses and carts were a more common form of transport in the capital, Tirana.

In the 15 years since it was released from its straitjacket, the city, together with the rest of the country, has paid the price of freedom.

Choked with some 300,000 cars, lorries and buses which burn fuel banned in the EU, Tirana is now seen as the most polluted capital in Europe.

Albania’s capital becomes a victim of its own phenomenal growth, as the city’s environmental problems multiply.

Tucker Carlson Brings Prostitutes To Meet Ron Paul

The AP story began: "Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul, an underdog Texas congressman with a libertarian streak, has picked up an endorsement from a Nevada brothel owner," Dennis Hof.

"Picked up," however, is the wrong phrase, since it implies, incorrectly, that Ron Paul had solicited Hof’s endorsement. In actuality, it was a member of the media, MSNBC’s Tucker Carlson, who had done the soliciting. Carlson not only contacted Hof to ask him to check out Ron Paul while Paul was in Nevada, but he even arrived at Ron Paul’s Reno news conference in the company of Hof and two of Hof’s prostitutes. Hof’s presence, which surprised the Ron Paul campaign, then gave Hof the opportunity to be interviewed by the media.

It's hard to imagine a worse outcome for the Balkans

The prospect of war has commentators screaming that "something must be done". I have not read one sensible answer to the question: what? Had Nato negotiated some sort of delegated sovereignty for Kosovo with the post-Milosevic government in Belgrade, Pristina hardliners might have been faced down and Serbia's notional integrity preserved.

That day has passed. It is easy to "hope" that Thaci and the Serbian prime minister, Vojislav Kostunica, might see the virtue of compromise and agree to go their separate ways under some sort of UN "sovereignty umbrella" (once proposed for the Falklands). But with Russia behind the Serbs, and Europe and America behind the Kosovans, why should leaders in either Belgrade or Pristina risk the wrath of their electorates by compromising? Once steeped in such dependency, no one feels any pressure to back down.

More and more people seem to take it as given that a nuclear-armed Iran would use its nuclear weapons to attack the United States. Yet there is no plausible argument, and very little evidence, for that conclusion.

Indeed, for the U.S. government to attack a country that has not attacked us and isn't even threatening to do so would be to commit an immoral, and probably illegal, act. But that's another story.

Meet Hasim Thaci

A certain Beqir Osmani from Drenica remembers well the youth of Thaci: “We know well who he is. We know what he did, how he was in school and what kind of education he received. Everyone on the Kosovska Mitrovica market had great problems with Thaci, who stole goods from traders. Even the customers complained. He fought in pubs of Mitrovica and Srbica. He has no education at all. He only attended two first classes of a certain secondary school. Today however he meets with international politicians. What he can actually discuss with them is far from being clear”.

IRAQ OIL TO BE SHIPPED TO ISRAEL

Why Are They So Afraid of Ron Paul?

As I predicted last month, the only consistently antiwar candidate on the Republican side of the aisle is breaking through – but in a spectacular manner that I certainly did not foresee. Suddenly, Paul is everywhere, from the Sunday morning talk shows to the length and breadth of the blogosphere. His amazing $4.2 million-in-one-day fundraising feat has entered the annals of presidential politics as the long-promised fulfillment of Internet-based political fundraising. And the myth that it's all online and not translatable into real people is belied by his recent 5,000-strong Philadelphia rally and similar events in Iowa and elsewhere. Paul has become the equivalent of a rock star among the young, and his appeal goes way beyond the usual libertarian crowd: liberals and conservatives, all races and cultural types, from home-schooling Christians to San Francisco pagans and everything in between. On the Internet, and in the streets, the Ron Paul Revolution, as his followers have dubbed their movement, is taking off.

Bush marks Veterans Day in Texas

"These men and women saw the future of the terrorists' intent for our country and they said with clear voices, 'Not on my watch,'" Bush said of the troops.

"The enemies who attacked us six years ago want to strike our country again, and next time they hope to kill Americans on a scale that will make 9/11 pale by comparison."

One has to wonder the about the certainty with which Bush appears to predict another attack on the US.But here's the real problem; if there is another 9/11 on a larger scale, every sacrifice of our civil liberties, every indignity suffered when we travel, and every evisceration of the Constitution and Bill of Rights we have witnessed under his watch will have been shown to have had no real effect on our safety. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE LOBBY LIED TO US ABOUT ISLAM

They' tell us that ALL Muslims are bad. 'They' tell us that ALL Muslims are terrorists. 'They' point their fingers at all of them... without exception, humiliating them, dehumanising them... BUT... Right here, right now, just a week after the infamous Islamo-Fascist Week 'celebrations' sponsored by the Lobby in America, a group of Jewish Israelis honoured Muslims that saved their lives during the nazi occupation of Albania.

Yes, Muslims.... believers in ISLAM..... Hmmmm... what else has the Lobby been lying about??

Letter from Europe: Seeking rapprochement, if not a grand bargain

BERLIN: The United States and Russia are engaged in brinkmanship at NATO headquarters in Brussels, where both sides are trying to salvage an arms treaty that is considered one of the cornerstones of European security since the end of the Cold War.

But much more is at stake. The United States and its European allies, especially France and Germany, want to try to strike a grand bargain with President Vladimir Putin. Their hope is that if NATO allies make concessions over the Conventional Armed Forces in Europe Treaty, not only would Putin lift his threat to pull out of the accord on Dec. 12, but it could also be the start of a diplomatic rapprochement with Russia, helping to reach compromises over other big international disputes.

One is Kosovo. Despite Russia's staunch opposition, the ethnic Albanians are intent on declaring unilateral independence next month if talks with Serbia fail. The second is Iran, where the United States needs Russia's full support for stopping the Islamic Republic from obtaining the capability to produce nuclear weapons. And finally there is the U.S. plan to deploy part of its antiballistic missile shield in Poland and the Czech Republic, which Russia and indeed several West European countries believe is foolhardy.

Explosive Evidence - WTC Was Too Hot

Dr. Steven Jones found iron spheres in samples of dust from the World Trade Center which were collected by ground zero resident Janette MacKinlay.

Why is this important? Because iron melts at about the same temperature as steel. But the government has admitted that the fires in the World Trade Centers were not hot enough to melt steel.

Indeed, the temperature needed to melt iron is almost twice the maximum temperature that can be reached by jet fuel, diesel, office supplies and equipment, and the other flammable material which could possibly have burned in the World Trade Centers. So what, other than explosives producing enormous heat, could have produced temperatures hot enough to form the iron spheres?

Serbia Warns of Kosovo Unrest

Belgrade _ Kosovo faces the possibility of major unrest once internationally-sponsored talks over its long-term status are concluded, Serbia's intelligence chief warned on Thursday.

E Verteta4_U: This is why you never give up your arms to nobody. But back in 99 the 1st thing UNMIK did was get rid of the UCK aka the KLA and took all their guns away. Now I guess Albanians have to start again and gather some arms and get ready just in case something happens. You know a AK47 is not a lot of money in the Balkans so they should get as much as possible.

Kosovo: Is EU Set To Recognize Independence?

Some recent German media reports suggest that Germany and a critical mass of countries within the European Union are prepared to recognize an independent Kosovo if the current round of Belgrade-Pristina negotiations do not produce an agreement. The talks end on December 10, after which the Kosovar leadership has said it will declare independence if no deal is reached.
